Student Chapter Activities

Through all the years from inception and inclusion of students in the AEE-India chapter, they have been an integral part and through several coordinated activities they have fulfilled all responsibilities, often voluntarily to uphold the name of the chapter.

EnCon, an event organized on the observance of Energy Conservation Day on 14th December, 2019 by the final year students, AEE student chapter members, saw delegates from several verticals of work and diverse work culture gather, and share their views & innovative strides that could be made towards Future Energy Mix in India and Sustainability chairing Padma Shri Prof. Ajoy Kumar Roy as the chief guest and other eminent speakers in multiple interactive sessions throughout the day. The 23rd Volume of the Energy Window had been published on the very day with articles from Mr. Ratul Chakrabarty (Secretary, AEE-Kolkata Student Chapter), Dr. Binoy Krishna Chowdhury (Vice-President, AEE- Kolkata Chapter), Dr. Krishna Murari Agrawal (Vice-President, AEE- Kolkata Chapter) & others.

Few of the student members of AEE/IISWBM-Kolkata Student Members are also taking part in the formulation of ESIA-ESMP for “West Bengal Electricity Distribution Grid Modernization Project” of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), funded by The World Bank. This project aims at conversion of existing Low-Tension overhead lines to underground electrical cable network and High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) along with setting up of Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) in selected districts and towns of West Bengal. This project will take into account the various modernization measures for increasing the efficiency of the grid, including relocation of Transformers near Load Centers, upgrading transformer capacity and increasing the insulation of the line through use of AB cables, maintenance of defective poles and meters along with integration of new connections to ensure uninterrupted power supply (24X7) with engagement of the students in field visits and discussions on public platforms.

The student chapter members consisting of Ataus Samad, Arghya Majumder, Tamal Kanti Das, Tuhin Ghosh, Anirban Dey, Rudra Kabi, Ratul Ghosh led to organize Energia 2k19 hosting around 200 students from multiple reputed colleges in inter & intra college events to increase the awareness in the domain of energy management & the part they could play as young professionals. The chapter also boasts of hosting Dr. Ashok Sarkar, Senior Energy Specialist, World Bank, Washington DC, USA who delivered a special lecture on “LEAPFROGGING ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPLEMENTATION IN INDIA: DRAWING FROM GLOBAL STRATEGIES, EXPERIENCES, AND BEST PRACTICES”.
